The Buffalo Bills have resolved their contract standoff with running back James Cook, agreeing to a four-year, $48 million extension on Wednesday that includes $30 million guaranteed.
The deal carries a $12 million average annual value, surpassing the recent $11 million average signed by Kyren Williams of the Los Angeles Rams.
Cook, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie contract and coming off his most productive season. While he initially sought $15 million annually, talks stalled as other Bills teammates secured new deals. Following a brief hold-in, he returned to practice on Tuesday, and the agreement was completed within a day.
The two-time Pro Bowler matched O.J. Simpson’s franchise record with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 and finished with 18 total scores, eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards for the second consecutive season.
The extension makes Cook the sixth key player the Bills have locked up this offseason, joining Josh Allen, Khalil Shakir, Christian Benford, Gregory Rousseau, and Terrell Bernard.
