Canandaigua reviews $10M downtown project list

Canandaigua’s local planning committee has unveiled 27 private proposals vying for a share of the city’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant, the Finger Lakes Times reports. The projects range from apartment and facade upgrades to restaurant expansions, brewery improvements, and major public space enhancements.

Notable ideas include renovating City Hall, creating new housing on Main Street, expanding Casa De Pasta and Peacemaker Brewing, turning the Lincoln on Main into a year-round events center, and converting part of Phoenix Street into a pedestrian-only corridor. Costs for individual projects range from under $200,000 to more than $4 million.

The list will be pared down for a final application due to the state, which must approve all projects. The committee will meet Sept. 9 to choose which private ventures will join seven public projects already proposed.
