Planned Parenthood is pushing for $35 million in state aid to cover services for 1.5 million New Yorkers, according to the New York State Catholic Conference. The group criticized the request, calling the organization “failing” and opposing the use of taxpayer dollars to support it.
Planned Parenthood did not deny the funding figure and said it’s working with state leaders to protect access to sexual and reproductive care. The organization blamed recent cuts in federal Medicaid funding for the financial strain.
The state has not yet publicly responded to the request. Meanwhile, opposition from religious groups signals the funding debate could escalate as lawmakers weigh health care access against ideological resistance.
