More victims possible in case against former Lyons coach

A former high school basketball coach in Wayne County is facing sex abuse charges, and investigators believe others may have been harmed.

Dean E. Schott II, who once coached at Lyons High School, was charged with a criminal sex act and sexual abuse stemming from a 2019 incident. Authorities revealed the charges during a press conference after Schott pleaded not guilty in court this week.

Sheriff Robert Milby said the nature of the case suggests there may be additional victims and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Schott resigned in April and was later escorted from school grounds as the investigation began.

Indictment unsealed in Wayne County sex abuse case

A man was arraigned Tuesday after prosecutors unsealed an indictment charging him with sex crimes following a local sheriff’s investigation.

The defendant, Dean E. Schott II, faces counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree and Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, according to a press release from Wayne County District Attorney Christine K. Callanan.

These charges stem from an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, which earlier this year confirmed a criminal probe involving a former Lyons Central School District staff member.

Schott was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Richard M. Healy in Wayne County Court following the unsealing of the indictment.

A press conference is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on August 6 at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, located at 7376 NY-31 in Lyons.
