A Steuben County woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly filing false documents and illegally receiving over $5,000 in public assistance benefits.
Sheriff Jim Allard announced that Amanda S. Tuttle, 34, of Cottage Avenue in Hornell, was arrested August 5 following an investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities allege that between February 12 and August 31, 2024, Tuttle submitted a false instrument to the county’s Department of Social Services and unlawfully collected $5,035 in benefits.
Tuttle is charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony; welfare fraud in the third degree, a class D felony; and grand larceny in the third degree, also a class D felony. She was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
Sheriff Allard thanked the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, as well as the District Attorney’s Office, for their assistance with the investigation.
