NYSEG will rebuild Milo Substation amid grid pressures

A $19.5 million overhaul of the decades-old Milo Substation in Yates County is underway as NYSEG contends with grid reliability issues and growing demand around the Finger Lakes.

The rebuild, announced Tuesday, includes full reconstruction of the substation on Second Milo Road and five miles of surrounding lines in Penn Yan. The project is expected to benefit 850 customers, including the Penn Yan Airport.

“By rebuilding the Milo Substation, customers in Yates County should notice fewer outages for years to come,” said NYSEG President Marc Geaumont.

Constructed in the 1950s, the current facility will be replaced with a modern substation equipped with a 14 MVA transformer.

The upgrade will improve voltage capacity and allow for an additional circuit to be added in the future if needed.
