Lockheed Martin Owego lands $18.8 million Navy contract

Lockheed Martin’s Owego facility has secured a nearly $19 million contract from the U.S. Department of the Navy, reinforcing its role as a critical hub for defense innovation and local economic strength.

The $18,828,520 agreement will fund the procurement of 25 Digital Magnetic Anomaly Detection (DMAD) hardware kits and associated program management services. All work will be completed at the Owego site, with a projected finish by January 2027.

“This is a tremendous win for Lockheed Martin Owego and the hardworking men and women of the Southern Tier,” said Congressman Nick Langworthy. “This investment not only strengthens our national defense capabilities — it fuels our local economy, supports good-paying jobs, and reinforces the critical role our region plays in keeping America safe.”

The DMAD system enhances anti-submarine warfare capabilities for the Navy’s MH-60R helicopters by detecting subtle changes in the Earth’s magnetic field triggered by large underwater metallic objects. According to Sikorsky Maritime Systems Vice President Tish Rourke, the upgraded sensor is a compact, removable device that integrates with existing aircraft systems.

“MH-60R operators now have the option to significantly upgrade their anti-submarine warfare capability using a small, removable device,” Rourke said. “This non-acoustic digital MAD sensor can easily be installed into any operational MH-60R aircraft and can operate independently or collaboratively with other mission systems.”

Lockheed Martin’s Owego site has long been recognized as a leader in advanced defense solutions and continues to be a trusted partner to the U.S. military.
