Alstom’s Hornell facility will produce propulsion systems for 435 additional R211 subway cars, expanding its role in New York City’s transit upgrades, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The components will support Kawasaki’s ongoing manufacturing of the MTA’s R211 fleet.
This brings Alstom’s total contribution to over 80% of the R211 cars’ propulsion systems. The Hornell site, the largest passenger rail manufacturer in the U.S., is also handling orders for M-9A cars and Metra railcars at its new car body shell facility.
Alstom says its integrated testing and production process in Hornell enhances efficiency, quality, and reliability for urban transit systems.
