A preliminary autopsy shows 9-year-old Melina Frattolin died from drowning in what police say was a homicide, according to officials. Her father, Luciano Frattolin, is charged with second-degree murder after allegedly fabricating an abduction story and later calling 911.
Melina’s body was found under a log in a Ticonderoga waterway on Sunday. Police say she and her father had been vacationing in New York from Montreal. Surveillance footage showed them in Saratoga Springs hours before the incident.
Authorities are now requesting video or eyewitness accounts of a gray Toyota Prius traveling on I-87 Saturday night. Investigators are still searching for a motive, though Frattolin has pleaded not guilty.
