A former Beacon police officer has been arrested for fatally shooting his roommate inside their shared home, according to the Times Union. Authorities say Edison Irizarry, 52, called 911 on Monday night to report the incident himself.
Police arrived at the Rombout Avenue residence and found 58-year-old Casey Cuddy dead from a gunshot wound. Irizarry, described as calm during the arrest, is now facing first-degree murder and multiple weapon charges and is being held without bail.
Neighbors were stunned, calling Cuddy a kind and familiar presence. Irizarry had retired in 2021 after 17 years on the force and recently returned to Beacon. His court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
