Newark firefighters battled two structure fires early Monday, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The first blaze broke out at 705 Colton Ave. around 4:42 a.m., severely damaging a single-family home. The family escaped safely, crediting a daughter for the alert.
Shortly after, crews responded to a multi-family home fire at Scott and West Miller streets. Heavy smoke and flames forced evacuations, and the building suffered major damage. A dog died and seven people were displaced.
Firefighters from Lyons and Phelps assisted in both responses.
