Livingston County honors community corrections workers

Livingston County is recognizing the week of July 20–26 as National Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week, applauding the vital role of community corrections professionals in public safety and rehabilitation.

The Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation to honor probation officers, parole supervisors, and pretrial services staff who work daily to reduce recidivism, advocate for victims, and help offenders successfully reintegrate into society.

“The field of probation is unique in law enforcement, requiring the probation officers to manage the dual complexities of community safety as a priority and assisting individuals placed under court-ordered supervision with changed behaviors,” said Livingston County Probation Director Lynne Mignemi. “I consider it an honor and privilege to serve alongside them, witnessing their courage, empathy and dedication to those they serve.”

As the County’s certified pretrial services agency, the Probation Department oversees ignition interlock compliance, drug screening, DNA collection, and electronic monitoring. Officers also supervise treatment court participants, sex offenders, felony-level cases, and juveniles.

Livingston County has also taken the lead on youth suicide prevention through the use of the e-Connect system, a digital tool designed to identify at-risk juveniles and match them with immediate mental health care. Livingston was one of ten counties chosen by Columbia University to pilot the tool in 2018.

Officials encouraged residents to thank community corrections staff for their contributions to justice and safety.
