The National League captured a dramatic 7-6 victory in the All-Star Game Tuesday night at Truist Park, clinching the first swing-off finish in Midsummer Classic history.
After the American League rallied from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game in the ninth inning, the tiebreaker format — adopted in 2022 but never used — called for each side to pick three hitters to take three swings each. Kyle Schwarber delivered the decisive blows, homering on all three of his swings to seal the win and earn All-Star Game MVP honors.
The evening began with fireworks when Pete Alonso launched a three-run homer in the sixth and Corbin Carroll added a solo blast for a 6-0 NL lead. Brent Rooker cut that advantage in half with a three-run shot in the seventh, and the AL completed the comeback in the ninth with Bobby Witt Jr.’s RBI double and Steven Kwan’s infield single off Edwin Díaz. Boston’s Aroldis Chapman set down the NL in order in the bottom half, setting the stage for the historic tiebreaker.
In the swing-off, Rooker and Randy Arozarena put the AL ahead 3-1 before Schwarber’s clean sweep flipped the outcome.
The NL’s triumph marks only its second win since 2013 and narrows the AL’s series lead to 48-45-2. The 2026 All-Star Game will be hosted in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park.
