Geneva police make one DWI arrest at lakefront checkpoint

A multi-agency DWI checkpoint in Geneva screened over 1,000 vehicles Friday night, resulting in one arrest for driving while intoxicated.

The City of Geneva Police Department conducted the sobriety detail on Lakefront Drive between Lake Street and the entrance to Seneca Lake State Park from 7 p.m. to midnight on July 11.

The checkpoint involved coordination with the New York State Police, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ontario County Stop DWI program.

During the five-hour operation, officers screened 1,068 vehicles and distributed educational materials on alcohol impairment. Thirteen drivers underwent field sobriety testing and were cleared to drive.

Only one driver was arrested for DWI, according to police.
