Andrew Cuomo officially re-entered the New York City mayoral race Monday, launching an independent campaign just weeks after losing the Democratic primary to Zohran Mamdani, according to Spectrum News. In a video message, Cuomo thanked supporters and declared he’s not ready to walk away from the race.
Despite conceding the primary, Cuomo never withdrew from the November ballot and will now run on the “Fight and Deliver” line. He’ll face Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, and others in what’s shaping into a crowded general election.
Cuomo’s move drew swift pushback. Adams mocked him as a “double-digit loser,” while Mamdani accused his rivals of chasing billionaires instead of voters. With endorsements piling up, Mamdani said his campaign will stay focused on working-class New Yorkers.
