Rescue teams navigate gorge to save injured hiker

An injured hiker stranded in a remote part of Robert H. Treman State Park was rescued Thursday thanks to a joint effort between Enfield and Ithaca emergency crews, according to first responders. The hiker was found below Lucifer Falls, one of the park’s most isolated areas.

EMS stabilized the patient while teams prepared a low-angle rope rescue. Ithaca’s specialized rope rescue unit, trained for such terrain, was called in and successfully extracted the hiker. The patient was brought back to Upper Treman via ATV in stable condition.

The operation took about two hours. Rescue officials praised the teamwork between fire departments, EMS, park staff, and volunteers that led to the successful outcome.
