Yankees’ Carlos Rodón replaces Max Fried on American League All-Star team

New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón was named to the American League All-Star team on Friday, replacing teammate Max Fried on the roster.

This marks Rodón’s third All-Star selection and first with the Yankees. The 32-year-old previously earned honors with the Chicago White Sox in 2021 and the San Francisco Giants in 2022.

Entering Friday, Rodón held a 9-6 record and a 3.30 ERA over 19 starts, tallying 127 strikeouts and 40 walks in 111 innings. He is scheduled to start Friday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs, giving him three days of rest before Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic in Atlanta.

Fried, 31, is set to pitch Saturday for New York, making him unavailable for the All-Star Game on short rest. Fried, a three-time All-Star as well, leads Major League Baseball in wins with an 11-2 record and a 2.27 ERA, along with 111 strikeouts across 119 innings.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone will oversee the AL squad, which also features outfielder Aaron Judge as a starter and infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. as a reserve.
