Unemployment filings in New York climbed last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, signaling a potential uptick in layoffs statewide.
Initial claims in New York reached 18,006 for the week ending July 5, a rise from 15,610 the previous week.
Nationally, claims fell to 227,000, a drop of 5,000. North Dakota saw the sharpest increase in weekly claims, surging more than 250%, while New Hampshire experienced the steepest decline at nearly 49%.
