The 2025 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic and tradition-rich events in recent memory, with a slate of new technologies, heartfelt tributes, and fan-favorite customs set for July 15 at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.
Marking the 95th edition of the Midsummer Classic, Major League Baseball will introduce the use of the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System for the first time in All-Star Game history. Powered by T-Mobile’s 5G network, the system allows pitchers, catchers, and hitters to challenge a ball or strike call by tapping their cap or helmet, with each team receiving two challenges. The rule was piloted in Minor League Baseball and used during Spring Training earlier this year.
The night will also honor one of baseball’s most iconic figures: Hank Aaron. At the end of the sixth inning or later, MLB will deliver a tribute to Aaron’s historic 715th home run — which he hit on April 8, 1974, at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium — using projection mapping and custom pyrotechnics. The moment will air live on FOX.
In another fan-favorite tradition, All-Stars will take the field wearing their regular season uniforms, reversing the trend of league-issued jerseys worn in recent years. The change comes after considerable fan feedback. Players will still wear exclusive All-Star Game caps, featuring two stars on the crown and a commemorative logo patch.
MLB will also bring back the in-game two-way microphone feature that allows selected players to chat live with FOX broadcasters Joe Davis and John Smoltz. The list of mic’d-up All-Stars will be revealed on MLB’s social platforms before the game.
Off the field, the game will continue its commitment to raising awareness for cancer research. The annual Stand Up To Cancer placard moment will return at the end of the fourth inning, as fans, players, and coaches join together in holding signs to honor those impacted by cancer.
The ceremonial first pitch will feature Braves legends Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, and Andrés Galarraga — each a 2000 All-Star when Atlanta last hosted the game. Jones, a Hall of Famer and 1999 NL MVP, leads a trio that helped define a generation of Braves baseball.
Immediately after, the game ball will be delivered by Eva J., the 2025–26 Southeast Youth of the Year from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and a student at Spelman College.
The 2025 Midsummer Classic promises a blend of innovation, nostalgia, and celebration, highlighting baseball’s past and future on its grandest summer stage.
