Woman charged with felony burglary after theft at Auburn Tops

A woman previously banned from a Tops store in Auburn was arrested on July 4 after police say she attempted to steal seafood, including crab legs, from the location on Genesee Street.

According to a media release from the Auburn Police Department, officers responded to a larceny complaint at 352 Genesee Street and found the suspect, identified as Rebecca Gould, in possession of stolen merchandise. Police say Gould had been trespassed from the store following a prior incident, which elevated the new larceny charge to burglary.

Gould was charged with burglary in the third degree, a class D felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. She was taken to the Cayuga County Jail, where prosecutors requested she be held on $20,000 bail due to her criminal history.
