The New York Mets pulled off their biggest comeback of the season Tuesday night, storming back from a four-run deficit to beat the Baltimore Orioles, 7-6, in 10 innings at Camden Yards.
After struggling to generate offense for much of the night, including falling victim to an immaculate inning, New York’s bats finally woke up. Ronny Mauricio sparked the turnaround with a solo home run in the sixth, but it was the eighth inning when the Mets erupted. Francisco Lindor crushed a two-run homer to pull within two, and Pete Alonso followed moments later with his own two-run blast to tie the game.
Edwin Díaz shut the door in the ninth with a clean inning to set the stage for more heroics. In the 10th, Lindor started as the automatic runner and Juan Soto wasted no time, lining the first pitch he saw up the middle for the go-ahead RBI single. Though the Mets loaded the bases, they couldn’t add insurance.
Huascar Brazobán came on in the bottom half and delivered a perfect inning to seal the dramatic win.
Clay Holmes started the game strong but was undone in the sixth by a string of Orioles hits that put the Mets behind 6-2. The bullpen settled in, though, giving the offense a chance to rally.
The Mets (53-39) will look to secure a third straight series win on Wednesday night when David Peterson takes the mound. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
