Yankees edge Mets to snap six-game losing streak, prevent Subway Series sweep (highlights)

The Yankees snapped their six-game losing streak on Sunday with a 6–4 victory over the Mets at Citi Field, avoiding a sweep.

The Yankees turned to ace Max Fried, who pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs while striking out five. Though he battled control issues early, including a pitch clock violation and a wild pitch, Fried managed to keep the Mets in check during key moments, stranding two in the fifth by striking out Juan Soto and retiring Pete Alonso on a flyout.

Austin Wells opened the scoring for the Bronx Bombers with his 13th home run of the season off Zach Pop in the third inning. Pop, who relieved opener Chris Devenski, surrendered three runs over 1.1 innings. Aaron Judge extended the lead in the fifth, launching his 33rd home run of the season, a two-run shot that put the Yankees up 5–0.

The Mets fought back in the middle innings, with Francisco Lindor driving in two runs in the fifth and Jeff McNeil adding an RBI single in the sixth. However, a rally-ending double play and a diving catch by Cody Bellinger limited the damage.

The Yankees tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on Judge’s sacrifice fly, and the Mets were unable to mount another comeback.
