A small-town vacancy is turning into a community decision, according to The Tompkins Weekly, as Ulysses invites residents to help choose their next board member.
Officials are accepting applications through May 29 to fill an interim seat left by Tom Knipeās resignation. Instead of appointing someone outright, leaders plan a public process that could include community input and candidate meet-and-greets.
The interim pick will serve through the end of the year. Meanwhile, voters will choose a longer-term replacement in a June primary, followed by the general election.
