Lansing budget cuts staff, programs

Students could see fewer field trips and staff next year, according to The Tompkins Weekly, as the Lansing Central School District sends a tight budget to voters.

The $40.9 million plan stays within the tax cap but cuts several positions and scales back programs, including swimming and professional development. Officials cite rising labor, benefit, and debt costs, along with shrinking state-related funding.

Leaders say some roles will shift rather than disappear, aiming to avoid layoffs where possible. Voters will decide the plan May 19, with changes likely if costs keep climbing.
