Cayuga County lake residents fed up with flooding

Residents along Cross Lake, which borders Cayuga and Onondaga counties, are grappling with persistent flooding that’s turned waterfronts into swamps, according to WSYR.

For six straight weeks, homeowners have watched docks submerge, mosquito populations explode, and belongings float away. Locals blame inaction and complex water management involving multiple agencies across the Oswego River Basin. They say solutions outlined in a 2023 state report remain unfulfilled.

One proposal — restoring the Montezuma floodplain — is in progress, while changes to the Baldwinsville Dam are still in early planning. A stalled bill to create a single oversight group for the basin has been reintroduced, but residents remain skeptical change will come fast enough.
