Geneva City Council has mandated the owner of a long-vacant, fire-damaged strip plaza on Castle Street to demolish or repair the building by August 1, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
If the deadline isn’t met, the city will demolish the property and add the cost to the owner’s tax bill. Architect Dan Long said the owner plans to demolish the structure soon but must secure a certified contractor due to minor asbestos concerns.
Residents voiced frustration that cleanup has taken over three years. A previous redevelopment plan failed to secure funding, but city leaders and the owner hope to revisit mixed-use development options under updated zoning.
