Tanglewood Nature Center in Elmira is launching a public fundraising campaign to support a $3.5 million treetop walkway project, following a $1 million federal grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, according to the Star-Gazette. The center aims to raise another $1 million from donors.
The planned walkway will offer a panoramic, bird’s-eye view of the Chemung River’s Palisades cliffs and surrounding Appalachian foothills. Officials say it could attract over 40,000 new visitors annually and boost local tourism and tax revenue.
The elevated path will be accessible to all and is designed to inspire learning, art, and conservation while enhancing Tanglewood’s role as a regional destination.
