Newark boards to review shed variance, table apartment conversion

Two upcoming public meetings in Newark will consider requests that could impact local property use, with the Village Planning Board set to meet on July 7 and the Zoning Board of Appeals scheduled for July 14.

The Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, in the Village Court Room on the second floor of the Newark Municipal Building. One of the main items on the agenda is a project at 806 East Avenue, where Amanda and Jason Whitbeck are seeking an area variance to allow a 9-by-17-foot permanent shed to be placed 1.5 feet from the rear property line. Current zoning regulations require a minimum setback of four feet.

The same project will go before the Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. That meeting will take place in Room 210 of the same building.

Both boards were also set to review a proposal at 345 Grace Avenue, where Dennis M. Kehoe, representing Grace Avenue Properties, Inc., submitted a request for a special permit to convert an existing building into 13 rental apartments. The site is zoned Residential R-1, which does not permit multifamily dwellings. However, that request has been tabled and will not be discussed at either meeting.

The Newark Planning and Zoning Boards hold their meetings at 100 East Miller Street and begin with a 6 p.m. workshop before the formal session begins at 6:30 p.m.
