The New York Yankees (36-22) bounced back in a big way Sunday night, avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers (36-23) with a 7-3 win.
Ryan Yarbrough delivered a strong performance on the mound, giving the Yankees six efficient innings of one-run ball. The left-hander struck out five, scattered four hits, and continued his impressive stretch since joining the rotation, lowering his ERA to 2.83.
The offense wasted no time putting pressure on Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. New York made him labor early, and Ben Rice delivered the big blow in the third inning, a two-run blast to center field that gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Anthony Volpe later scored on a wild pitch to extend the advantage. Yamamoto lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing four runs and seeing his ERA jump nearly half a run.
DJ LeMahieu led the charge at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI, including his first double of the season. The Yankees totaled 11 hits, drew seven walks, and stole three bases in a well-rounded offensive effort.
Jonathan Loáisiga allowed a pair of solo homers in the seventh, but Devin Williams and Tim Hill closed things out cleanly. Jasson Domínguez, who had an RBI single, exited early with a left thumb contusion.
The win snaps a two-game skid and sends New York home on a high note as they prepare for a three-game set against the Guardians starting Tuesday.
