Rome man charged with child exploitation and weapons offenses

A Rome man is facing felony charges after State Police say they uncovered child sexual exploitation material and illegal weapons during a search of his home.

On August 21, troopers arrested 39-year-old Russell J. Kirk on multiple charges, including promoting a sexual performance by a child and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The investigation was part of a joint operation by the State Police Computer Crime Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say they executed a search warrant at Kirk’s residence and found child exploitation material, as well as an illegally possessed firearm and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices.

Kirk was arraigned in Rome City Court and sent to the Oneida County Jail with bail set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. He was due back in court on August 22 at 9:00 a.m.
