Federal prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo over his pandemic-era testimony to Congress, according to the Associated Press.
The Justice Department opened the probe after Republican lawmakers accused Cuomo of misleading them about his COVID-19 response, especially concerning nursing home fatalities. Cuomo, now running for New York City mayor, was referred for prosecution last year by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Cuomo’s spokesperson denied any knowledge of the probe, calling the timing politically motivated. The investigation is being handled by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, though no official comments have been made by federal authorities.
