New York is pursuing contempt of court rulings against a select group of correction officers who joined an illegal strike earlier this year, according to Spectrum News.
At a hearing Monday, state attorneys said they aren’t seeking penalties—just a formal finding that the officers violated the Taylor Law, which bans public employee strikes. Defense lawyers argue the motion itself is punitive, noting the officers have already lost jobs and benefits. Seven officers have yet to respond to court proceedings.
A July hearing will address next steps, including separating unresolved cases and reviewing severance issues tied to medical leave.
