Rep. Crockett slams Trump over plan to accept $400M jet from Qatar

Representative Jasmine Crockett issued a sharp rebuke Monday over former President Donald Trump’s reported intent to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet from the Qatari royal family, calling the move a violation of the U.S. Constitution and a threat to national security.

In a statement released from Washington, Crockett (TX-30) criticized Trump’s May 11 comments, in which he claimed the plane would be a “GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE” from Qatar and intended to retrofit it for use as Air Force One if reelected. Trump also stated he would later donate the jet to his presidential library, allowing for continued personal use.

“Make no mistake—accepting this gift is yet another blatant violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause,” Crockett said. She referenced a 2024 report from the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, which found Trump accepted millions in payments and gifts from foreign governments during his previous term, including $465,744 from Qatar.

The estimated value of the Qatari aircraft is $400 million.

Crockett warned the gift could compromise national interests, adding, “His actions and greed not only put our democracy at risk, but our national security as well.” She pointed to previous instances in which Trump engaged closely with foreign adversaries and floated controversial ideas, such as acquiring Greenland.

“The Emoluments Clause of the Constitution is not a suggestion or a nice to do—it is the law,” she said. “President Trump nor anyone else in his administration are above our nation’s laws.”
