A Rochester man was arrested early Monday morning after leading Yates County deputies and Penn Yan police on a high-speed pursuit that began on Pre-Emption Road and tore through multiple intersections before ending with a successful deployment of spike strips.
Leonard L. Henry, 50, was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, four counts of reckless driving, two counts of speeding, failure to keep right, two counts of failing to stop at stop signs, and passing a red signal.
According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 2:27 a.m. on May 12 when deputies received reports of a vehicle traveling over 100 mph southbound toward Yates County. Deputies, assisted by the Penn Yan Police Department, attempted to stop the vehicle near State Route 54 in the Town of Benton. Henry refused to pull over and continued at high speeds through the Village of Penn Yan, ignoring multiple traffic signals.
The chase ended after deputies deployed spike strips, deflating the vehicle’s tires and forcing it to a stop. Henry was taken into custody without further incident.
After processing, he was issued appearance tickets and later turned over to the Geneva Police Department to face unrelated charges.
