New York will replace Robert Livingston’s statue with one of Harriet Tubman in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall. The plan, part of the 2025-26 state budget, forms a commission to design the statue and secure federal approval.
Gov. Kathy Hochul praised Tubman’s deep ties to New York, where she lived and fought for freedom in Auburn. The move honors Tubman’s legacy as a symbol of justice and resilience, reflecting the state’s modern values.
Tubman’s funeral was held in Auburn, where she is also buried at Fort Hill Cemetery.
