Himrod woman charged after abandoning dog in Penn Yan

A Himrod woman was arrested late Saturday night after police say she tied a dog to a fence and left it without care near a village residence.

Naomi J. Pelton, 43, was charged with abandonment of an animal following a complaint to Penn Yan Police on April 19. Officers responded around 11:38 p.m. after the dog was discovered unattended.

According to police, a nearby resident identified the dog and showed messages from Pelton asking them to take the animal back. No arrangements had been made prior to Pelton leaving the dog at the residence.

Pelton admitted to the act when questioned and was released on an appearance ticket for Penn Yan Village Court.
