K9 teams from the Seneca and Yates County Sheriff’s Offices conducted a joint detection training exercise at South Seneca High School over spring break, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The operation included Deputy Nelson with K9 Coski and Deputy Jacobsen with K9 Frank from Seneca County, along with Deputy McGuigan and K9 Edy and Officer Palmer with K9 Rocco from Yates County. With the school temporarily closed to most students and staff, the teams used the opportunity to simulate real-world search scenarios throughout the building.
The exercises focused on enhancing detection capabilities for a range of substances, including narcotics and explosives. Officials said the training environment allowed the K9 teams to sharpen their skills in a realistic but controlled setting.
“This proactive approach underscores the commitment of both law enforcement agencies to safeguarding local educational institutions and fostering a safe environment for students and staff,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
Authorities thanked the South Seneca Central School District for providing access to the building and expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership between departments.
