A suspicious vehicle complaint in the early morning hours of April 17 led to a drug arrest and multiple traffic citations in the Town of Verona, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers from SP Oneida responded to Senn Road around 3:51 a.m. after receiving a report about a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male driver and a female passenger inside the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view, prompting Troopers to have both occupants step out of the car.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a plastic container with a substance that tested positive as crystal methamphetamine. Kimberlee Pontello, 37, of Camillus, NY, admitted the drugs were hers and was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a Class A misdemeanor. She was processed at SP Oneida and released with an appearance ticket.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle was operating with switched license plates and other violations of state vehicle and traffic laws. The driver, 43-year-old Gary J. Schapp of Munnsville, NY, was issued multiple traffic tickets.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office assisted State Police at the scene.
