Top-ranked Cornell secured its 33rd Ivy League title with a 20-12 win over No. 10 Harvard on Saturday afternoon, improving to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The victory also locked in the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the Ivy League Tournament.
Senior CJ Kirst tied the NCAA Division I career goals record with 224, scoring five times and adding an assist. His record-tying goal came off a feed from sophomore Willem Firth, who finished with four goals and one assist. Kirst’s three-goal burst in just 41 seconds during the second quarter helped ignite the Big Red after a scoreless first.
Ryan Goldstein tallied three goals and three assists, while 11 different Cornell players found the net. Michael Long added a goal and two assists, tying for fifth all-time in Cornell history with 105 career assists.
Jack Cascadden dominated the faceoff X, going 23-for-29 with a goal and 14 ground balls. Goalie Wyatt Knust made 12 saves, and Eddie Rayhill and Matt Dooley led the defense, forcing two turnovers each.
Cornell outpaced Harvard in ground balls (43-34), clears (17-of-20), and extra-man opportunities (2-of-3).
Next, the Big Red will close out the regular season and celebrate its seniors when it faces Dartmouth on Saturday, April 26, at noon.
