Environmental advocates and lawmakers rallied against two proposed natural gas pipelines, warning of risks to New York’s environment and economy, according to WICZ. Senator Lea Webb and Assemblymember Anna Kelles joined others urging Governor Kathy Hochul to reject the Constitution and NESE pipeline projects.
The Constitution pipeline would stretch 125 miles across New York, while the NESE project includes 24 underwater miles between New Jersey and New York. Critics said the proposals, backed by Donald Trump and gas industry supporters, threaten water quality and would raise costs for residents.
Both pipelines were previously denied in 2016 and 2019. Webb emphasized that New York should not repeat harmful practices and instead focus on protecting communities and future generations.
