A Geneva man was arrested Wednesday following a yearlong investigation that linked him to illegal firearms recovered from a Palmyra home.
Armeal Whitfield was taken into custody by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office with help from Geneva police. He faces three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
Authorities began investigating in August 2023, when deputies responded to a domestic incident on Market Street in the Village of Palmyra. During that response, they seized two handguns—one of which had its serial number filed off.
Detectives later used DNA technology to determine that Whitfield, a convicted felon, had possessed the firearms. His prior felony convictions prohibit him from legally owning or handling weapons.
Whitfield was located on Main Street in Geneva and arrested on July 24. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment at the Wayne County CAP Court at 7 p.m.
