Cayuga Centers quietly settled a federal lawsuit earlier this month involving claims that CEO Edward Myers Hayes retaliated against a former executive who investigated him for alleged age discrimination, according to The Citizen.
Filed in 2024, the lawsuit detailed how Hayes returned from leave, stripped staff of decision-making power, and targeted the complainant and her husband, both employees. The agency sought to dismiss the case, but mediation was ordered in March and a confidential settlement followed in April.
Meanwhile, a separate federal lawsuit remains active, alleging Cayuga Centers failed to provide safe care for an unaccompanied migrant child. Backed by $170 million in federal funds, the program is also under scrutiny by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, who has twice demanded records tied to potential child safety violations.
