Plane Crash in Copake Kills Six, Including MIT Star & Rochester Neurosurgeon

All six people aboard a small plane that crashed Saturday in Copake have died, the NTSB confirmed. Among the victims was Karenna Groff, an MIT soccer standout and 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year, according to family reports.


Groff was traveling with her parents and boyfriend, all en route to a holiday gathering when their Mitsubishi M2-B40 went down in a muddy field near Columbia County Airport. Weather conditions are being investigated as a potential factor.

The tragedy has left the local community grieving, with residents expressing heartfelt condolences as the NTSB continues its probe.

RRH Neurosurgeon Among Six Killed in Plane Crash

Rochester Regional Health has confirmed that Dr. Michael Groff, Executive Medical Director of Neurosciences, was one of six people killed in that Columbia County plane crash.


Groff, a respected neurosurgeon and pilot, was traveling with his wife, two children, and their partners for a holiday celebration.

RRH leadership praised Groff’s legacy of clinical excellence and compassionate care. The NTSB is investigating weather and flight conditions as potential factors.
