Retail theft is falling across New York, with Gov. Kathy Hochul reporting a 12% drop in New York City and 5% statewide over the past year, according to State of Politics.
She credited the decline to a $40 million investment in retail theft units, 100 additional state troopers, and tougher penalties. Small business tax credits for security upgrades also played a role.
Hochul says the state won’t ease up, and vowed continued support to protect shops, workers, and shoppers.
