A one-year-old died after a house fire broke out Monday afternoon in the Town of Chenango, according to WIVT. Flames erupted on Broad Street around 12:45 p.m., trapping the child inside.
A 26-year-old woman escaped with her two older children, ages 2 and 5, but couldn’t reach the baby due to heavy smoke. First responders pulled the toddler out through a window, but the child later died at Upstate Medical Center.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
