Syracuse women’s lacrosse comeback bid falls short in loss to Virginia Tech

No. 6/11 Syracuse mounted a spirited second-half rally but fell short in a 14-11 road loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Emma Ward led the Orange with five points, scoring twice and dishing out three assists to tie Syracuse’s all-time assist record (164) held by Katie Rowan. Mileena Cotter recorded a hat trick, while Alexa Vogelman and Emma Muchnick each netted two goals.

The game was tied 1-1 early before Virginia Tech took control with three straight goals to close the first quarter. The Hokies (8-7, 2-5 ACC) extended their lead with goals late in the second and early in the third, building a 9-4 advantage.

Syracuse (9-6, 5-3 ACC) clawed back in the third, sparked by Muchnick’s unassisted goal. Vogelman and Ashlee Volpe followed to cut the deficit to two, but Virginia Tech responded with another run to stay ahead. Cotter’s early fourth-quarter goal brought Syracuse within three again, but the Hokies held on down the stretch.

Box Score

The Orange wrap up the regular season on Thursday, April 17, against Boston College. The game will be held at Christian Brothers Academy in Dewitt.
