Lansing earns climate certification, eyes state funding

The Village of Lansing has achieved bronze status in New York’s Climate Smart Communities program, unlocking access to grants and resources for sustainability projects, according to Tompkins Weekly. The designation follows five years of work by the village’s CSC Task Force.

Mayor Ronny Hardaway said the recognition helps fund clean energy initiatives, improve infrastructure, and prepare for climate impacts. Lansing’s efforts included policies on shaded spaces and energy-efficient practices.

Benefits of the program include cost savings, improved air quality, and support for green businesses—all aimed at making the village more resilient and sustainable.
