UR Medicine Thompson Health has recognized registered nurse Megan Gray of Geneva with the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence, honoring her deep compassion and dedication to long-term patients.
Gray, who works on floor 2 West at Thompson Hospital, was surprised with the award on April 8 by nursing leadership after being nominated by a fellow nurse. The nomination highlighted Gray’s ability to form meaningful connections with patients and families during extended hospital stays.
“She spent time talking with them to hear their complaints and feelings and helped them process the difficult decisions and thoughts they were dealing with,” the nominator wrote, also noting Gray’s support for the patient’s significant other.
Her efforts included rallying hospital staff to create cheerful drawings and personally delivering a decorated Christmas tree to the patient’s room. “These little acts of kindness are prime examples of what an amazing nurse she is to all her patients,” the nomination continued.
Gray received a DAISY certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY Award recipient, she is eligible for educational scholarships, certification discounts, and global medical mission grants through The DAISY Foundation.
Thompson’s DAISY Award is part of a national program recognizing nurses who go above and beyond in their care. To nominate a nurse for the next award, visit ThompsonHealth.com/DAISY.
