Hornell school board advances $44.9M budget plan

Hornell residents will vote May 20 on a proposed $44.9 million school budget for 2025-26, according to the Evening Tribune. The plan includes a modest 1.9% tax levy increase, staying below the district’s cap, and outlines continued investment in academics, safety, and staff development.

The budget reflects a $520,000 rise in spending from the previous year, with savings anticipated from a new health insurance provider. A separate $3 million energy performance project, funded through future savings and not new taxes, will also be on the ballot.

State Foundation Aid is projected to increase by 5.3%, pending budget finalization. One school board seat and the district’s annual budget hearing are also scheduled in the lead-up to the vote.
