Jesse Winker delivered a two-run triple to tie the game, and Francisco Lindor walked it off in the ninth inning to lead the New York Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on a cold and rainy Saturday night at Citi Field.
After being shutout through seven, the Mets offense finally came alive in the eighth. Down 2-0, Winker launched a 1-2 curveball from Blue Jays pitcher Brendon Little off the right-field wall for a two-run triple, tying the game. Lindor then plated the winning run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly after Jose Siri worked a walk and Luis Torrens singled.
Chriss Bassitt was dominant for Toronto, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings, while Mets starter Griffin Canning gave up just one run before being pulled in the fourth. New York’s bullpen kept the game close, with Huascar Brazoban pitching 2.1 solid innings and Edwin Díaz striking out three in a scoreless ninth to earn the win.
The Mets go for the three-game sweep of the Blue Jays on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. with David Peterson on the hill.
